Crafting a “Power 60 Statement” to Land Your Next-Level Opportunity

Do you wish you could make a more powerful first impression at your next job interview or job fair? Having an impactful elevator pitch can be one of your biggest assets in these situations and delivering it with confidence will really set the stage for your success.

In my coaching program, I help clients craft a Power 60 Statement using a versatile template designed to help you communicate who you are and what you’re about. Whether your goal is to land a new job or establish a strong professional network, this template can be customized to highlight your skills, experiences, and alignment with your prospective company.

In this blog, I’m going to share that template with you so you can do this on your own! But first, let me explain what a Power 60 Statement is.

Understanding the Power 60 Statement

You already know what an elevator pitch is. It’s a short sentence or two that highlights your professional ambitions. A Power 60 Statement is a lot like that, but just dialed up a bit.

The “Power” part is actually an acronym (which I will break down for you) and the “60” stands for 60 seconds, as in, this is a statement you can share in one minute or less.

Here is what “Power” stands for:

  • Passion - Overall, your statement demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for the work you currently do or wish to do.

  • Opportunity - Your statement showcases your ability to recognize and seize opportunities, indicating a proactive and forward-thinking mindset.

  • Wisdom - You highlight your accumulated knowledge and experience, as well as your ability to make informed decisions and provide valuable insights.

  • Enthusiasm - Your statement suggests a positive and energetic attitude.

  • Results - Your focus on outcomes shines through, demonstrating your effectiveness and reliability as a member of a larger team.

While you might not speak about these attributes in this order or explicitly break them down, your statement will illustrate a well-rounded candidate's potential value to an employer.

Power 60 Statement Template

Now that you know what the Power 60 Statement is all about, it’s time to create your own. I’m going to break it down into steps so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Part 1 - Introduction

Start with a brief and engaging introduction. Mention your name, profession, and a key area of expertise or interest. This sets a clear and positive tone for the rest of your statement.

"Hello, I’m [your name], a dedicated [your profession] with a strong passion for [key area of expertise or interest]."

Example:

"Hello, I’m Jordan Smith, a dedicated Project Manager with a strong passion for driving successful project outcomes in the tech industry."

Part 2 - Professional Background

Next, you’re going to give a concise overview of your professional background, highlighting the number of years you’ve been in the field and your key areas of expertise.

"With over [number] years of experience, I have focused on [brief description of your key areas of work or expertise]."

Example:

"With over 8 years of experience, I have focused on leading diverse teams to deliver complex projects within timelines and budgets."

Part 3 - Key Achievements

Share specific achievements from your previous roles to demonstrate your capabilities and the impact you’ve had. Highlight the skills that were crucial to these successes.

"In my previous role at [previous company], I led [significant project or achievement] that resulted in [specific results or impact]. This highlighted my skills in [list relevant skills]."

Example:

"In my previous role at Global Solutions, I spearheaded Project Orion, a major software development project, that was completed 3 months ahead of schedule and 15% under budget. This highlighted my skills in risk management and cross-functional team leadership."

Part 4 - Alignment with Prospective Company

Express your enthusiasm for the opportunity and explain why you’re excited about the company or role. Align your skills, experience, or values with the company’s goals, approach, or culture.

"I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity at [company name] due to [mention what excites you about the company or role]. [Mention how your skills, experience, or values align with the company’s goals, approach, or culture]."

Example:

"I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity at TechFront Inc. because of your commitment to pioneering cutting-edge technologies. Your emphasis on innovation and market leadership resonates with my professional journey and aspirations."

Part 5 - Closing Statement

Conclude with a strong statement about your eagerness to contribute to the company’s success. Reiterate your key areas of expertise or types of projects.

"I am eager to bring my experience in [your key areas of expertise or types of projects] to contribute to the success of [company name]."

Example:

"I am eager to bring my experience in managing high-impact tech projects and my proven leadership skills to contribute to the groundbreaking work at TechFront Inc."

Putting it All Together

So once you have your five parts, you would put it all together into a statement like this:

"Hello, I’m [your name], a dedicated [your profession] with a strong passion for [key area of expertise or interest]. With over [number] years of experience, I have focused on [brief description of your key areas of work or expertise]. In my previous role at [previous company], I led [significant project or achievement] that resulted in [specific results or impact]. This highlighted my skills in [list relevant skills]. I am particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity at [company name] due to [mention what excites you about the company or role]. [Mention how your skills, experience, or values align with the company’s goals, approach, or culture]. I am eager to bring my experience in [your key areas of expertise or types of projects] to contribute to the success of [company name]."

There you have it. Now that you have your Power 60 Statement, all you need to do is practice speaking it with confidence. It will make a huge difference in the success of your job search!
